$75 raffle ticket could net a $275K home in Rio Rancho.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—March 16, 2017—With one raffle ticket, one lucky person will win a new home in the desirable community of Mariposa in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, thanks to Abrazo Homes and its partners. The Albuquerque homebuilder is building a three-bedroom home that will be raffled off November 18, 2017, to raise money for a ranch that provides critical housing for area foster children. Tickets are $75 each, with a limit of 4,000 to be sold.

El Ranchito de los Niños was established in 2000 to keep brothers and sisters together during a very difficult time in their lives. The growing number of children in state custody creates a challenge for finding foster homes. Siblings are often separated from each other because of the limited space.

Founders Mike and Kathy Mechenbier converted their 7,200 square-foot ranch to a foster home that accommodates up to 16 children, from infancy to the age of 18. The working farm, situated on 23 acres in Los Lunas, New Mexico, provides at-risk youth with a stable, loving home where they receive medical, educational, and physical support. The staff of El Ranchito de los Niños help these young people prepare for college, as well as job training for other career paths. The Mechenbiers also created an on-site apartment where former residents can stay during visits and short-term stays, such as college breaks.

El Ranchito de los Niños relies 100% on donations, and they will receive all proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets.

“This project allows us to use our skills to help children who don’t know the comfort and sense of security that comes with living in a caring home,” explains Mackenzie Bishop, owner and co-founder of Abrazo Homes. “We’re proud to have so many other businesses eagerly contributing their resources in building this new home. It’s a community effort, with a lot of people getting behind El Ranchito de los Niños.”

The 1,750 square-foot home will use Abrazo’s popular Anne home design (named for Anne Frank), and include three bedrooms and two full baths. The kitchen will feature granite countertops, maple cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. Abrazo Homes is adding a three-car garage with a workshop area, and a complete home automation, networking, and wiring package. Mariposa’s community amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a 4-acre park, and walking and biking trails. The new home is valued at $275,000. The winner will have the option of choosing $100,000 in cash, instead of the grand prize home.

Abrazo Homes has entered the raffle home in the Fall 2017 Parade of Homes, a semi-annual event sponsored by the Home Builder’s Association of Central New Mexico. Representatives of El Ranchito de los Niños will be in the home at the event and selling any remaining tickets for the fundraiser.

The building lot was contributed by 4 Sisters, LLC. The construction materials and labor is being donated by Abrazo Homes, Builders Source Appliance Gallery, Community Sciences Corporation Land Surveying and Planning, Interior Specialists, Inc., JLK Construction, Longhorn Construction, Otero & Sons Roofing, Pro-Build Builders FirstSource, RAKS Building Supply, and United Stoneworks. Cliffdweller Digital, Su Casa Magazine, and NASH 92.3 radio are providing marketing and advertising assistance for the raffle.

The prizewinner will be drawn on Saturday, November 18, at 11:00 a.m., at the home, located at 6029 North Sandia Court, Rio Rancho. Raffle tickets can be purchased directly from El Ranchito de los Niños by calling (505) 889-6040 or visiting the website.
